Apparently Dr. Robin on ABC's soap opera "General Hospital" is suffering from postpartum depression. I haven't seen the story line myself, but Postpartum Progress readers have told me that so far the writers seem to be handling it responsibly. Glad to hear it.

I would like to know if they are using creative license in the sense that Dr. Robin is pretending to be someone else, unattached to the little family she's made. The PD I've read about in [college] abnormal psych (and touched upon in child psychology) discussed mothers being detached from the baby(ies) and Brooke Shields felt like driving her car into a tree, but I haven't read of, like Dr. Robin's character, driving to places to escape—pretending to be someone else–not split personality but just in the moment pretending (i know the babies can be abandoned but pretending???). Is the pretending part accurate?
