There are a LOT of women who dedicate their time and efforts and souls to helping women with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Want to recognize one of them?

Our Bodies Ourselves has created the Our Bodies Ourselves Women’s Health Heroes awards “to honor those who make significant contributions to the health and well-being of women.”

Nominations close on April 30, so you’ll have to get to work ASAP. Who can you nominate? They state “You’re welcome to nominate yourself or anyone who has advocated on behalf of women’s health. Possible nominees include, but are far from limited to, your nurse practitioner, a favorite blogger, a volunteer at the domestic violence shelter, the local activist who writes letters to the editor on the importance of health care reform, or a friend who supports you through day-to-day medical struggles. If you have a hero, we want to hear about that person.”

You can nominate someone either by writing a few paragraphs or making a video about the person you are nominating. Just tell them why she’s a health hero and try to give specific examples of how she helps women live healthier lives.

Again, the deadline for nominations is April 30, and 20 Health Heroes will be announced on May 19. To submit a nomination, click here. They’ve created a very clear set of instructions on how to either submit a nomination in writing or one via video. You can also see who won last year.

On a side note, how freaking awesome would it be to be in the Our Bodies Ourselves Women’s Health Heroes Hall of Fame. Seriously. I remember my mom using the Our Bodies Ourselves Book when I was in junior high to teach me all about … well, you know, all my parts and stuff and how everything works. If it hadn’t been for their book, I’m not sure what she would have done. OBOS has been around since 1970 doing great things to create awareness about women’s health issues.
