I've been thinking about how to add vlogging (video blogging) to Postpartum Progress for the longest time and this morning it finally hit me. (Thank you God!)
We're going to do a series, playing off of the Six Things series I already do in print, where my readers who are survivorscan send in short movies where they offera singletip or bit of inspiration on getting through perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. There's nothing in my opinion more comforting to someone who is suffering than to hear from another woman who has been there. So Warrior Moms, get your video cameras out.
Here are the rules:
1) Sendme a video where you share your One Thing. It should be NO MORE than 4 minutes long. Shorter is easier for people to watch and digest. Email it to stonecallis@msn.com. (Yes, I know I recently changed my email to stonecallis@gmail.com but my gmail account seems to have a problem getting large files so until I figure that out send the videos to the msn address. Or send me the URL or the embed codeif you've loaded the video onto YouTube, which would be easier.)
2) Absolutely NO selling of any specific brands or products in the video. Period. No mention of specific medications or specific doctors or specific masseuses or specific brands of alcohol. 😉
3) I reserve the right not to use the video if I think it doesn't promote a balanced and informed view of the experience of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
To kick things off, here's my One Thing:
And yes, I know my bra strap is hanging out, butthat was the authentic me talking and I figureif I had redone it it would havefelt staged. So you'll just have to take me bra strap and all.
LOVE this idea! And your video is terrific. SO true. How refreshing not to remember and realize how far we've come. Will send my "one thing" soon!!
You ROCK. This is fantastic, and SO inspiring to hear. And I agree with you. For me, it's been nearly 2 years, and you're absolutely right…the more time that goes by, the harder it is to remember those once-vivid emotions.
This is amazing! It brought a few tears to my eyes but it's true. One day it will be over. Thanks for this!
Amazing idea! The more tools we have to give the new, frightened PPD… mommy, the better.
You truly are a Beacon for me!!! I tell everyone about your site!

Whew! Thanks ladies!! Hadn't gotten
any comments all day on my video and was worried maybe it stunk.(stank?) 😉
AWESOME new perspective for your blog, Katherine! I LOVE it! So many mothers rely on reading your words, as well as those from other survivors and professionals. I know the words here often speak volumes when I read it. This other dimension of video personalizes some of those words further. It is so important for these moms to believe that they WILL get better, and to have their feelings and experiences validated. Thank you for all the lives you touch.
What a FANTASTIC IDEA!!!!
This is a great video. It's funny, though you're not anything like I thought you would be. Thanks
Do tell! How did you think I'd be? Did I turn out in real life to be better or worse?
Katherine, that was fabulous! What a great video to kick things off with, reassuring everyone that things do get better and it won't always be the way it is right now. Awesome.
Katherine,
Words can't express how much I needed to hear what you had to say. My son is 9 months old and I have been suffering from PPA and PPD since his birth. Along with PTS from his difficult delivery. This is my second time going through this. I had it with my youngest daughter about five years ago. So this time I knew how to get some help. But even with medication I still have symptoms. And feel that I am at a point where I am wanted to find other ways to help get over this. So I was so happy to find your website. Just hearing your story helped. It feels so good to be reminded that this will go away and that I am not alone.
