In my last post for the Million Moms Challenge before it wraps up, I write about the emotional health of our children.
As I’ve explained before, the Million Moms Challenge is attempting to engage one million moms with mothers in the developing world around issues that directly impact pregnancy, childbirth and children’s health. It’s been an honor to be part of this movement with ABC News, the UN Foundation and Blog Frog.
We really need you to join in the Million Moms Challenge by signing up for free here. If 100,000 mothers join, then Johnson & Johnson will donate $100,000 to charities that help mothers and babies around the world. We haven’t made that goal yet and time is running out. Please join us, and in the meantime let me know what you do to raise emotionally healthy children!
Oh, and as always, if you follow the link and reply to the discussion over at the ABC News website, you’ll be entered to win an exclusive Million Moms Challenge Gift Pack, which includes an iPad2, a custom-made Million Moms Challenge pendant and a $50 donation in your name to Global Giving.
Here’s a tidbit:
People who are emotionally unhealthy and without good coping mechanisms can make bad choices, choices that can harm, whether it’s self-medication with drugs and alcohol or choosing bad relationships. I know I can’t control what my kids do when they grow up, but I feel I have an important role to play. I can model good coping skills to the best of my ability. I can share my own feelings and how I deal with them. I can talk about the times I’ve made mistakes, or when I’ve been afraid or anxious and how I handled it. I can teach them about boundaries.
