Ladies: Major Warrior Chick request. Send me an email (stonecallis@msn.com) and tell me what awful things (if any!) were said to you (or someone you treat) by a healthcare provider (PCP, nurse, OB/GYN, psychiatrist, therapist, pediatrician, etc.) during your experience with postpartum depression/postpartum psychosis/postpartum anxiety/OCD. You don’t have to give me the name or where the person practices — I’m just trying to compile a list of the kind of stuff that is still being said in this day and age(!) to suffering women.
Some recent ones I’ve written about or heard:
* The nurse who tells the new mom who has had previous bouts of PPD and knows she’s getting again to take a hot bath and wait until her 6-week postpartum appointment
* The doctor who tells a suffering mom "You don’t look like you have PPD"
EMAIL ME!!!!! Get crackin. I know you’re out there and, oh, have you got stories to tell …
MY MOTHER TOOK ME TO THE ER WHEN MY BABY WAS AROUND 3 MONTHS OLD AND THE DR. TOLD ME THAT MY BABY WAS TOO OLD FOR ME TO HAVE POST PARTUM DEPRESSION.
January 30,1984. One day after my daughter was born by emergency C-section. Everytime the delivering OB(partner and on-call for my regular OB) comes into my room, I cry. No apparent reason. When my primary OB makes rounds, comes to my room and I tell him this, his reaction is, "He has the same effect on me". This is not a joke.
