Each year, Postpartum Progress’ Board of Directors elects to donate a percentage of funds raised by Climb Out of the Darkness® held in selected states to local, independent, 501c3 registered nonprofit organizations that provide direct services, such as support groups, or that lead community network development (building up systems of referral between OBs/pediatricians/PCPs or hospitals and reproductive psychiatry specialists).
We believe it is important to support local organizations that are truly making a difference directly for moms in their communities. We created a new grant application process and received a record number of grant applications from organizations that are doing amazing work in the maternal mental health field.
This year our focus was to provide as much support as we can to organizations that are addressing the needs of underserved women in their communities who experience perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. We have full confidence that each dollar given to these organizations will be used to empower and elevate women who are often forgotten.
We are thrilled to announce that our 2016 Climb Out of the Darkness® Local Grant Recipients are:
- Moms Bloom, Michigan Climbs
- Open Arms Perinatal Services, Washington Climbs
- Supporting Mamas, Northern California
- Postpartum Education and Support, North Carolina
- Nan Tolbert Nurturing Center, Southern California
- First Connections, Massachusetts
- Perinatal Depression Outreach Program at Sinai, Maryland
- Heartsounds Mother and Infant Care, Arizona
We believe 2016 will be our most successful year to date. Through empowering women to take charge of their well-being and tell their story as survivors, we are increasing awareness of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Awareness leads to change!
