It was somewhere in the middle of the first session on the first day of Warrior Mom™ Conference 2015 that I first started to wonder about 2016. It was just so good to be there in that room surrounding by those amazing women. For just a moment my mind wandered off: Surely they were already planning for next year! Right?

Announcing the 2016 Warrior Mom Conference

It turns out that Katherine Stone, Susan Petcher, and their team, as mythical as they may seem to the rest of us, are actually just regular women who are trying their best. They initially felt unsure as to whether the first one would work out. Before they could begin planning a second Warrior Mom™ Conference, they needed to know if the inaugural event would have the impact they were hoping for. There was no plan for WMC 2016.

What they had put together was an amazing mix of education and inspiration. We got to hear about all of the latest research, and we learned so much about the statistics and facts of maternal mental illnesses.

We also got time for self-care and a session on recovering from recovery that was nothing short of revelatory for a lot of us. Being with women who had all walked the same dark path made the light seem brighter. Hearing over and over stories that echoed my own helped me to understand—really and truly—that I am not alone in this.

I left with a new fire inside me that has not gone out in the months since. On the last day of the conference, Katherine gathered everyone to ask if we should do it again. She didn’t even get the entire question out before the room erupted in, “YES!”

Well mamas, I hope you’re ready for some ice cold Coca-Colas and warm peach pie because we are headed down South to ATLANTA, GA for Warrior Mom™ Conference 2016! Go ahead and do your happy dance. I’ll wait.

Are you back? Great! The Warrior Mom™ Conference is a patient-centered, community-focused conference for survivors of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, and those still working toward full recovery. Our 2016 theme is focused on the Warrior Mom community: the volunteers, climbers, blog readers, forum members, and staff that have changed the face of PPD for so many women and families over the last 11 years. We’re calling it Together, Stronger.
