Carol Blocker, mother of Melanie Blocker Stokes, for whom the MOTHERS Act is named, wroteyesterday to the Chicago Sun-Times asking why more hasn't been done in her own state to get increased funding and services for women with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
"Other states — eg., New Jersey have a law whereby new mothers must be screened and must receive information about postpartum depression and postpartum depression with psychosis and the risks. Why not in Illinois? Why not in every state in the United States? What are we thinking?"
Exactly. For more on Carol, check out Susan Stone's article "A Mother's Plea" or visit Carol's website Melanie's Battle. She is an amazing woman and has never quit working to gain greater help for all women who suffer.
