The Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Women's Mental Health has done two stories recently that will be helpful for breastfeeding moms on medication, particularly those with bipolar disorder. Check them out:
What's Safer for Breastfeeding? Lithium or Lamotrigine(Lamictal)
Thanks for this. I'm due in 10 weeks and have been taking Lamictal exclusively for about 2 years, including through my pregnancy (with my third). i was diagnosed with PP bipolar II after my second child. It's been a really hard decision and I'm worried, still, about breastfeeding. My psychiatrist says it's safe and gave me some guidelines and i need to talk to the pediatrician soon, but I worry about the increased rate of what passes to the baby postpartum. Still don't know what to do, exactly… but I can't imagine NOT nursing, it makes me cry just to think of it! Any notes from what other mothers have done would be wonderful!
