A new study says that when you give birth may impact whether you get postpartum depression. So … in the comments section, let me know what month your child was born and whether you had PPD or anxiety or OCD or PTSD? We're conducting a little unofficial poll here. 😉
Note: If you've already told me on Twitter, you don't have to answer here as I'm taking the Twitter answers into account already.
June. PPD/PPA
March…undiagnosed mild PPD/A
Feb. Severe PPD/A w/ocd, but not until 9 months later.
October…undiagnosed PPD.
Jan ppa
Oct mild ppd
Mar …all fine and dandy
On Twitter, I gave you my info but I had also asked if there was an article about the study. I was interested in who conducted the study and how they came to this conclusion. When I tried to search for an article, I got this on Momslikeme.com:

"A new study suggests that women who give birth in October through December were about twice as likely to have symptoms of postpartum depression as those who had children in April through June. Out of every 100 mothers, between 6 and 15 reported symptoms of postpartum depression, depending on how soon it was after they gave birth and in what season they gave birth."
I trust your site more than any other to give me the right answers when it comes to information like this. I would be interested to see the results of your poll and whether those results support the study.
3 babies October, March, August All the same level of PPA. I found the situational stress to be more an indicator than season.
July PPD/PPA
He was born in December. I had PPD, PPA, and PPOCD
Mar – joyful
Nov – basketcase, ppd/ppa
sept. PPA and OCD
October.
PPD with elements of psychosis.

end of September: PPA/OCD
April- PPA/PPD
End of March, PPD
February
July – undiagnosed
October – diagnosed PPA
April – PPD (stillbirth)
May – PPD, PPA, PPOCD
October – PPD/PPA
May: nothing
December: PPD
January has always been my worst month (SAD much?), but the PPD didn't hit til my husband went back to work in February. I really feel it was more situational than seasonal.
July- PPD
February PPA
January No problems
April No problems
I think my PPA was more situational than seasonal or hormonal.
PPA/PPD following traumatic birth – April 08
no recurrence – july 10
September
PPD, PPA, really bad PPOCD
September and PPD
February (during a blizzard) – PPD
February — PPD/PPA/PPOCD
September severe PPD and PPA
Late October, PPD, PTSD, and anxiety. And I remember it rained for about 3 weeks on end around the time the baby was born…it just kept coming down and down.
September – PPA & PPOCD
End of July
PPD & PPA but should have been treated for depression the entire pregnancy.
End of October
Was medicated for pregnancy but still had mild PPD & PPA.
Nov Oct and Feb no PPD. Feb PPD/PTSD/Anxiety 4 child I also believe situational emergency c section followed with his stay in NICU for 10 days
I am looking forward to reading this study/research because I have always wondered about this possible connection. My personal experience:
December birth: PPD/Anxiety (harsh winter, couldn't get outside for 3-4 months, dark, long days)
April birth (of twins): baby blues only (beautiful spring weather, outside every day within a week of giving birth)
1st baby May- best summer of my life with my son, no PPD w/ OCD, never even heard of it.
2nd baby November- PPD w/OCD occurring immediately after, couldn't go anywhere live in the Northeast.
I should add: my job was much more stressful, I was off my antidepressants longer since I had done well doing it for my first baby and I was doing fine up until the last couple of weeks before my second baby; and had a traumatic delivery with my second baby with the cord wrapped around his neck.
Dec- baby blues
PPD/PPA dx March though I had it all along and was in denial. Was one of the snowiest winters and worst flu seasons so stayed in the house for 3 months.
August PPD/PPA with agoraphobia
March – PTSD/PPD.
March PPD
May, PPD/extreme OCD/PPA
I'm interested in a survey of home births/midwives/doulas vs. hospital births
December – PPA/PTSD (note: traumatic emergency C-section)
January, PPD
April
July, medicated for depression & anxiety before, during, & after the pregnancy, no noticeable worsening of symptoms after pregnancy
both end of Nov. both ppd/ppa/ppocd
