You Are the Exact Right Mom for Your Child
A lot of moms who have postpartum depression unfortunately get to the point where they feel their families might be better off without them. I know I thought my son deserved a better mom than me. That was the illness talking.
It wasn’t true.
I think every mother is the exact right mom for her child. I can’t imagine having followed through on those thoughts or having left.
I know I’m the exact right mom for my son. I couldn’t feel it at the time because I was sick.
And then I got better.
Now I know it was very brief phase in my life as a mother. So, I would say to any mom out there who’s not sure she should have done this in the first place, who’s worried that her child would never love her, and that this is a disaster: Just. Wait.
Get help. Talk to the people who have been there. Be patient with yourself.
It’s gonna happen and you really are the EXACT RIGHT MOM for your child.
Yes, I know it’s cutting off my head. Trying to figure out how to fix the sizing on the video. 😉
I love that you never stop fighting for all of us, Katherine! Thank you! Gosh, I wish we could see this on t.v…..Oprah, get this as a PSA on your network!!
Thank you for sharing this message to so many mommies!
Katherine,
Valuable heartfelt words. I’ve been there in those very dark places, both prenatally and post. Anxiety, panic attacks, with a big fat dash of depression.
Geat to come across your work.
As a psychologist working with PPD and PPAnxiety I think the more mums who come out and speak the better: Good Enough Mums, Not Perfect Mums. What is needed is a wide network of support as there was once upon a time http://www.denisegreenaway.com
