CNN's Elizabeth Cohen recently published the piece "10 Dumb Things You Do At The Doctor's Office" and Karen Kleiman pointed it out on Twitter. Karen said she thought the article was very pertinent to moms with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders like postpartum depression, and I heartily agree. In particular, I want you to consider #2, #4, #6, #7, #9 and #10.
Make sure you don't do those things, please. 😉
My worst offense at the doctor's office (which won't sound that bad, but, honestly, it always leads to fear and confusion) is to not ask enough questions to make sure I understand, or to re-ask if I still don't get what I am being told. I recently went through several months, right after my daughter stopped nursing, where I had issues with lumps in my breast. I NEVER asked enough or the right questions, so I ended up dragging my husband in with me, because he would ask millions of questions and encourage me to ask questions I'd mentioned prior to the appointment but hadn't bothered to bring up with the doctor.
