" … while a psychiatrist might well understand the complexities and difficulties in treating depression, many family physicians and general practitioners do not. They might make a recommendation for psychotherapy in passing, but have little time to ensure the patient follows-up on the recommendation. A psychiatrist, on the other hand, better understands the value of psychotherapy and might make it a requirement of being prescribed an antidepressant through them."
You can always count on Grohol to get it right.
Therapy is a BIG part of the treatment and should ALWAYS be a part of the recovery plan. Most Psychiatrist do not do therapy….only meds.
i am still having a hard time with postpartum phsycosis and depression do you think it's because I don't do therapy just meds? It's been 2 years for my third baby and 1 year for my fourth. still struggling!
Thanks for the tip
Mandi,
Have you discussed this with your doctor? Perhaps the treatment plan you are currently on isn't as effective as it could be. Additionally, I think therapy can be very helpful. Medication does not offer you coping tools or ways to think and care for yourself that can reduce stress and positively affect mood.
